Barbara Matz grew up in Neusiedl am See and started sailing relatively late at the age of 12. Her talent was discovered in 2011 as part of a school sports project. Until 2013 she sailed in the Zomm8 class, then she switched to the Laser Radial in which she became national champion in 2015. 2017 She started sailing Nacra17 together with Thomas Zajac. Her biggest success was the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
