Matthäus Zöchling started competitive sailing at the age of 12 in the Zoom8-Dinghy. He changed to Laser Radial after 2 years and achieved the first rank in the Europacup U17 ranking 2016. One year later he changed to the Nacra 15 catamaran, where he qualified for the youth Olympics. Since 2019 Matthäus is sailing in the Olympic Nacra 17 class, with his sailing partner Laura Farese and won the U23 ranking at the Geelong Worlds 2020.
